Easy overnight oats - breakfast ready to go!
Having a rower in the family means many early morning starts. Which means we need quick and easy nutritious breakfasts ready to go.
Planning ahead is our solution to easing the early morning stress and these easy overnight oats recipes below are some of our favourites. Overnight oats are a quick and easy breakfast or snack made by soaking rolled oats in liquid overnight. They’re simple to prepare (get the kids do it themselves) and perfect for when you need a make-ahead breakfast or snack, especially for those hectic early mornings.
We also think these are a perfect snack to enjoy after an intense rowing or sporting session!
For these three recipes you will start with our oatmeal base and then add more flavours. For the oatmeal base you’ll need the following ingredients:
½ cup old fashioned oats
½ cup milk (any type)
½ teaspoon honey
¼ teaspoon vanilla
Mix all ingredients together in your Mr. Lid 2 cup container. The attached lid is perfect for storing overnight in the fridge and then grabbing on your way out the door. Overnight oats are great cold but you can also heat them up in the microwave - Mr. Lid containers are microwave safe!
Now that you have your base it’s time to kick up the flavour!
Peanut Butter Banana
Add 1 tablespoon melted peanut butter to your base oatmeal. Close the lid and place your Mr. Lid container in the fridge overnight or at least 5 hours. In the morning top with sliced bananas and a scoop of peanut butter.
To your base oatmeal add ¼ cup of finely chopped apples and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon. Close the lid and place your Mr. Lid container in the fridge overnight or at least 5 hours. Top with fresh apple slices and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Chocolate Covered Strawberry
When you make your oatmeal base substitute chocolate milk for milk, then add 1 Tablespoon cocoa powder and mix well. Top with fresh strawberries and chocolate chips.
Make your mornings a little less crazy with these easy and delicious overnight oats recipes. We encourage you to mix up your own flavors whether it’s whatever you have in your fridge or a balanced medley of flavors. Get creative and brighten up your morning routine!
